About CET
CET is a nonprofit training affiliate of Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeastern Michigan. Its purpose is to provide high quality apprenticeship training to the construction industry in order to build a safe, productive and sustainable work-force of craft professionals.
About Apprenticeship Training
CET is designed as an Apprenticeship Training School. Apprenticeship training simultaneously combines work experience with classroom training. Most trades require a minimum of 4 years and 8000 hours of On the Job Training (OJT) along with a minimum of 144 hours per year of classroom training. In order to be an apprentice, you must be working with a licensed contractor and attending related classes.
About Craft Training
A student who is not working for a contractor, but desires to start learning the trade wile seeking employment is classified as a Craft Trainee. All craft Trainees have the opportunity to be placed on a jobs list. Contracting members of Associated Builders and Contractors use the list to hire new employees. All classroom time spent as a Craft Trainee count towards the time required for Apprenticeship Training.
About the Program
CET uses the Contren Learning Series, a state of the art program developed and published by NCCER (The National Center for Construction Education and Research). Built upon industry standards, this standardized, competency-based curriculum is taught nationwide by contractors, associations, construction users, and secondary and postsecondary schools. Multiple state Departments of Education recognize the curriculum.
National Registry
In an effort to provide students and craft professionals with indrustry recognized credentials and assure national portability of skills, all students become part of a protable and nationally recognized credentiallying and certification system. This National Registry provides transcripts, certificates, and wallet cards to students who successfully complete the Contren Learning Series. These valuable industry credentials benefit students as they seek employment and build their careers.
